Top 5 head lice myths
Almost everyone knows what head lice are, but do they know the facts vs. myths?
Myth #1 - Head lice are a result of not being clean. Anyone can get head lice no matter how many times you bathe yourself each day.
Myth #2 - Head lice can jump from one persons's hair to another. Lice cannot jump, they can only crawl.
Myth #3 - Treatment of only the hair will get rid of head lice. Lice can live off the human body for about 24 hours, so you must remove all clothing and launder right away.
Myth #4 - If all the bugs are out of the hair, head lice treatment is over. You must be sure to remove all of the eggs as well.
Myth #5 - Any kind of shampoo will remove the head lice. Special treatment is necessary to remove head lice and eggs.

Should notification be sent to parents when head lice cases are reported?
There is quite the controversy of whether schools need to send notification to all parents when a case of head lice is reported. As a parent there seems to be no question, but school officials have to be cautious about information released because of privacy laws.
If parents were notified then they could all make sure they are taking the right precautions by preventing head lice before their child comes home with an infestation. Head lice is just a nuisance so the best way to be safe is to prevent at all times.

Can you imagine if Rapunzel got head lice?
With winter in full force and all of the hats, scarves and coats being passed around, there is certainly a high chance that head lice will be spread. Just think of all these little girls with long flowing locks like Rapunzel. Now think of trying to get rid of head lice on head of hair like that. What a mess huh?! Certainly the only logical thing to do is to prevent head lice before the thought of treatment strikes. Try following this prevention regimen. www.zippitydoos.com/prevention.

Head lice resistant to treatments?
More and more parents are having trouble with head lice treatments not working. Reports suggest that the cause may be that head lice are becoming resistant to head lice treatments. Health professionals report that any insect over time can develop a resistance to pesticides and chemicals. Doctors all agree that head lice prevention is the best way to make sure this doesn't happen. Follow Zippity Doo's head lice prevention routine here www.zippitydoos.com/prevention.

What do head lice look like?
Head lice can be in three different forms, the nit, the nymph, and the adult louse.
Nits are the lice eggs and are often confused with dandruff or dried hairspray. Nits are found attached to the hair shaft. They are usually yellow or white, oval shaped and they take about a week to hatch.
The nymph is a baby louse. It looks like an adult head louse but smaller. Nymphs mature to adults in about seven days after hatching.
The adult louse has six legs, and is tan to grayish-white and the size of a sesame seed. The female lays nits and they are usually larger than the males. Adult lice can live up to 30 days on a person's head, but they need blood to feed. If a louse falls off the head it will die within two days.

How do I know I have head lice?
Head lice are most frequently located on the scalp behind the ears and near the neckline. Head lice hold on to the hair with claws that look like hooks at the end of each of their six legs. Head lice rarely show up on the body, eyelashes or eyebrows.
The first sign you have head lice may be a tickling feeling or something moving in the hair. Itching can be caused by an allergic reaction to the bites or just scratching at the tickling. Sores may be found because of scratching, which can sometimes become infected. Looking closely through the hair and scalp for nits, nymphs, or adults is the next step. The nymphs and adults may be hard to find because there are usually a small amount of them and they move very quickly. Finding nits close to the scalp will confirm a head lice infestation. If the nits are more than 1/4 inch from the scalp, most likely it is an old infestation. The smartest thing to do is prevent head lice and you won't have to worry about treating them.

Head lice and the holidays
So the holidays are among us and this means gatherings and close quarters, which can easily lead to the spreading of head lice. This is definitely one guest none of us want. What do we do to avoid it?
1. Avoid sharing hats, scarves and any other item that comes in contact with someone's head/neck.
2. Spray all of these items with Zippity Doo's shield spray to prevent head lice.
3. Practice good housekeeping by vacuuming and washing all linens after house guests.

Girls more likely than boys to get head lice?
Yes, girls are more likely to get head lice than boys because they share hare products such as combs, berets, etc. Using a shield spray on all of these items that may be shared is a great way to prevent this from happening. We all know treating head lice in girls is much more difficult than boys just because they have longer hair.

Dangerous chemicals in head lice treatments
The desperation to eliminate head lice sets in and the search is on for a lice treatment. There are many different options out there to remove head lice, but are they all safe? The most risky chemical to watch for is lindane, which is especially dangerous to small children and infants. Another reported side affect of chemical lice treatments is hair loss.
The need to quickly remove these pests is first priority, but be sure that you research your head lice removal products and choose carefully. The best bet is to prevent!

Nobody wants to go searching for head lice treatments!
Each year approximately 6 to 12 million children between 3 and 12 are infested with head lice and about 1 in every 100 U.S. elementary school children will be infested with head lice. With children in such close proximity of one another all day at school, the chances of spreading head lice between them is very high.
The peak of lice infestation generally occurs at back-to-school time. Being prepared with head lice prevention products is the best way to lower these numbers and keep families at ease. Nobody wants to go searching for head lice treatments.

How are head lice spread?
Head lice can spread from person to person via direct contact, but they can also be passed indirectly among clothes, hats, scarves, etc. Even when these items are placed in close contact, head lice can spread from one item to another. Head lice can also be spread when infested hair brushes or combs are shared, infested bedding, towels or shower items. The best way to be safe against head lice infestation is to prevent using head lice prevention shampoo and conditioner along with other products. Keep in mind that head lice cannot fly or jump, they can only crawl.

Zippity Doo's is a new line of children's hair care products that help prevent head lice.
Ahhhh SPRING!
It's that wonderful time of year again. The birds are chirping, the earth is alive again and that note from the school nurse has you itching all over.
Head lice.
Don't be embarrassed, it happens to the best of us. Poor Glitter Gurl was infested in the 2nd grade. I'm slowly getting over it (she's 22). But now there's help.
Zippity Doo's is a new line of children's hair care products that help prevent head lice. This children's hair care selection includes shampoo, conditioner, shield spray, leave-in detangler, and styling gel. The special combination of all-natural, organic ingredients found in these products repels and helps prevent the invasion of lice and other insects.
When my samples arrived I smelled each and every bottle, and the smell? AMAZING! No harsh chemical smell. Instead, I experienced the aroma of tea tree oil, lemongrass and lavender. Of course I tried them all myself and then Augie Dawgs used them on herself and the boys and I even got Glitter Gurl to try it. I can honestly say we were all pleased with the results. Shiny, smooth hair with the bonus of lice prevention. My favorite was the Shield Spray, I used it on TOF'S carseat on the bus. Can't be too careful in those shared spaces.
Use Zippity Doo's™ :
Bath Time: Zippity Doo's™Shampoo and Zippity Doo's™ Conditioner as first line of defense against lice and other insects.
Every Morning: Zippity Doo's™ Leave-In Detangler or Zippity Doo's™ Styling Gel for an added and fresh layer of lice prevention before the kids head off to school or camp.

When the Zippity Doo's Hair Products arrived, the first thing I notice was the little spot that declared "Helps Prevent Head Lice."
When the Zippity Doo's Hair Products arrived, the first thing I notice was the little spot that declared "Helps Prevent Head Lice." Now as mom who (knock on wood) hasn't yet had the "pleasure" of dealing with this childhood "fun" I normally wouldn't be too excited about this. But it just so happened that they arrived while we were dealing with my first ever experience with ringworm. I know, one really has nothing to do with the other except that they're contagious and child related. Oh and just talking about either makes me itch like crazy. But it just made me realize how easily we COULD be dealing with head lice at any point too.
We've been using the products for awhile now and I really like them! The boys like the smell, which I honestly can't pinpoint but I guess it's something different then the baby shampoo they've been using their whole lives so they are happy. All the products work great and to think it gives the added benefit of protection against the nightmare that would be LICE in our house...I've THRILLED!

Zippity Doo's is a new line of lice prevention hair care for kids.
Head lice. It's been a fear of mine since Emma started pre-school. I dread the notes that often come home, letting me know a classmate of hers had it and to be aware if my child shows any symptoms. Thankfully we haven't. I can't imagine the inconvenience it must be for parents who do have children sent home with lice. Having to use the special shampoo, worrying about bedsheets and furniture, and the rest of the family all having it. And the poor kid! I remember when I was in grade school - everyone knew when someone was sent home with head lice. It's embarrassing all around.
Zippity Doo's is a new line of lice prevention hair care for kids. It's normal shampoo, conditioner, styling gel, and detangler, but made with natural ingredients that ward off any potential lice. And Zippity Doo's offers a special secret weapon: Shield Spray. You can use shield spray anywhere - hair, clothing, bedding, countertops...it's made to provide extra lice prevention and protection anywhere you need it.
It was very exciting to come across a product like this that can stop the problem before it starts. Since I'm especially concerned about the products we use in our home, I appreciate the natural ingredients that are used in Zippity Doo's. We've used all of the Zippity Doo's products and, aside from lice prevention, I'm very pleased with the results. Obviously Emma hasn't had lice since using the product, but it does a decent job otherwise of being just a regular day-to-day haircare routine. The scent is interesting - strong - but pleasant - you can definitely tell that it is packed with ingredients like Tea Tree Oil, Rosemary, and Lavender. Above all, though, my favorite thing about Zippity Doo's is the peace of mind it gives me.
We've really enjoyed our experience with Zippity Doo's and think you will too! I'm pleased to be able to offer one lucky reader a chance to win the entire line of Zippity Doo's products!

Here's a multiple-choice question: What's the worst thing about sending your kid to school?
Brought to you by Bonggamom at Thursday, March 25, 2010
Here's a multiple-choice question: What's the worst thing about sending your kid to school?
a) Waking up early in the morning
b) Helping your kid with homework (or doing it for them)
c) Junky cafeteria food
d) Having to buy 10 rolls of wrapping paper for your kid's fundraiser
3) Lice
For me, it's no contest. I can set my alarm clock, force (or bribe) my kids to do their own homework, pack their lunches and give out wrapping paper to relatives as presents -- but lice are like the plague. They're the worst houseguests ever!
When The Pea got lice, checking and removing the little buggers from her hair was an agonizing process, and I'm not eager to go through that again anytime soon. I bought her a lice prevention shampoo, but didn't really care for the smell. So when MomSelect invited me to try the Zippity Doo line of haircare products, I jumped at the chance, and I'm so glad I did! Here's what I thought of them:
The Basics
Zippity Doo is a line of children's hair care products help prevent lice infestation, and are mild enough for daily use.
The Bongga
These product smell heavenly! Everyone in the family loves the minty, tea-tree scent, even 3Po, who usually detests mint. We're really enjoying the shampoo and the conditioner, and The Pea loves using the detangler spray to comb out her rat's nest of a head in the mornings.
The Blah
The problem with lice prevention shampoos is that you can never really tell whether they work or not! I'll have to get back to you all on this the next time there is a lice infestation at school!
The Bottom Line
Whether Zippity-Doo products really do prevent lice or not, they are a great haircare line that smells great and leaves kids' hair feeling nice and soft!

I don't remember who had it first, but I remember my mom trying to rid of us of Lice and how awful it was.
Two of my brothers are five and six years younger than me, so we were pretty close when we were young, mainly when it came to illnesses! When one of us got something or brought it home from school, the rest of us got it. Chicken Pox, colds, the flu, it was one after the other in my house. Lice was no exception. I don't remember who had it first, but I remember my mom trying to rid of us of Lice and how awful it was. I mean when you think of it, Lice is little insects in your hair, I am itching just thinking about it!
So now that I am a mom, I am seeing how my boys get sick at the same time and Aidan definitely has been catching colds from his classmates. I am dreading the day when I hear someone in his class has lice! Well now there is a new line of children's products that help prevent head lice.
Zippity Doo's products contain natural ingredients that are mild enough for daily use and yet still provide the health benefits to the hair and scalp. Best of all it helps prevent lice infestation! They are also paraben-free products.
The Zippity Doo line includes:
Zippity Doo's Shampoo for children
Zippity Doo's Conditioner for children
Zippity Doo's Leave-in Detangler Spray for children
Zippity Doo's Styling Gel for children
Zippity Doo's Shield Spray for children
The idea is to use Zipptiy Doo's Shampoo and Conditioner at bath time as the first line of defense. Then every morning use the Leave-In Detangler and Styling Gel for an added fresh layer of lice prevention before kids head off to school or camp. Finally the Zippity Doo Shield Spray is great for all surfaces that could harbor lice, nits and other insects like hats, helmets, backpacks, pillows, bedding, toys, combs, clips, and other hair accessories.
MY THOUGHTS:
Although lice has not been an issue yet for my boys, I think this is a great product overall. I tried out all of them with Aidan and they work like the regular products, but secretly I know they will protect his precious head from lice! I love that I can also just spray the shield spray on hard to wash items like hats and his bike helmet. I know I will be glad I have this when I hear that a child in his class has lice. Oh and all the products smell awesome! I figure too that buying these products will save money in the long run too because I assume lice removal products are expensive and it is not a pleasant experience! These products are also as I said great for everyday use in place of your child's regular hair care products.
BUY IT: Zippity Doo's can be found at many drug, grocery, and mass merchandiser stores, including CVS.com, Value Drugs, and more.

When I interned as a school nurse, I learned that lice is actually more prevalent that I thought.
In the spring, we'll put our little boy back in preschool. While I appreciate the fact that he gets education and social interaction at preschool, I'm not crazy about the germs and bugs he often brings home. When I interned as a school nurse, I learned that lice is actually more prevalent that I thought. When you get a group of kids in close proximity to each other (they don't typically observe personal space), lice is not uncommon.
Zippity Doo's is a line of hair care products designed to prevent head lice. I'd much rather prevent those icky bugs than have to use medicated products to treat it. The products are made with natural ingredients like Vitamin D, Rosemary, Cinnamon, Tea Tree, & Lavender. I expected the products to have a "medicinal" smell, but surprisingly they smell good (sort of minty). According to the company, they're mild enough to use daily and help prevent lice infestation. They also work to leave hair shiny and free from tangles. In a sense, they serve two functions.
The product line includes the following:
Zippity Doo's Shampoo for Children
Zippity Doo's Conditioner for Children
Zippity Doo's Leave-in Detangler Spray for Children
Zippity Doo's Styling Gel for Children
Zippity Doo's Shield Spray for children
The company suggests the following regimen:

You can use the shampoo and conditioner at bath time, the Leave-In Detangler or Styling Gel in the morning before school, and the shield spray for surfaces that come into contact with hair such as hats, helmets, and hair accessories.
Each product retails for $10.99-$12.99 and can be purchased at select retailers nationwide including CVS. Win It! One of you will win a complete set of Zippity Doo's products. There are lots of things we, as parents, have to deal with that are not pleasant
There are lots of things we, as parents, have to deal with that are not pleasant: runny (or bloody) noses; dirty diapers; puke; and potty training accidents. We clean these up because we love our kids (and because nobody else will do it!) One thing that get to even the strongest of moms is head lice. (Okay...raise your hand if your head started itching when you read that last sentence!) Even the thought of lice makes most of our skin crawl.
I have been fortunate to not have the experience of "de-lousing" (is that the word?) my kids. But one time in high school, I had been working with kids and got a bad case. Not fun. At all.
Now there is a product that claims to PREVENT the problem in the first place. I am all for preventing. Zippity Doo's sent me their line of children's haircare and surface prevention products to try out. Now, I am all for giving products a test drive for my readers, but I won't be testing the product completely with my kids. I mean, I am not going to intentionally expose them to lice to see if it works. If you win, you can try that out yourself!
Zippity Doo's is mild and safe enough to use every day, and it provides natural gentle prevention instead of harsh treatments.
The full line includes 2 products for bath time: Zippity Doo's™Shampoo and Zippity Doo's™ Conditioner as first line of defense against lice and other insects; 2 products to use in the morning:Zippity Doo's™ Leave-In Detangler or Zippity Doo's™ Styling Gel for an added and fresh layer of lice prevention before the kids head off to school or camp; and Zippity Doo's™ Shield Spray on all surfaces, including hats, helmets, backpacks, pillows, bedding, toys, combs, clips, berets and other items and hair accessories that may harbor lice, nits and other insects.

If you're the parent of a school-aged child, chances are pretty good that you or someone you know has had to deal with the hassles of head lice
With two daughters in school, I've personally had to deal with head lice drama a few times and it is not something I care to ever repeat.
Now I will be the first to admit that I'm pretty tough when it comes to most mom tasks; changing dirty diapers, cleaning up cuts, fishing things out of the toilet—all easy peasy…cleaning head lice from my child's head—not so much. And don't even get me started on the chemicals used in most head lice treatments, the price of head lice treatments and their high failure rate. I've personally spent a small fortune on every shampoo, comb, and spray to prevent head lice that I've come across and given the fact that I've had to deal with lice more than once I'm pretty sure that those "preventative tools" have not always done their jobs as well as I feel they should have. So when I was asked by MomSelect to participate in a review for a line of children's hair care products to prevent head lice, I was very excited about it.
Zippity Doo's is a line of hair care products for children designed to prevent head lice. Zippity Doo's products are paraban free and contain natural ingredients that make using the products every day effective in preventing head lice and good for the health or your child's hair and scalp. Zippity Doo's line of products include shampoo, conditioner, leave-in detangler spray, styling gel, and shield spray. All of the products in the Zippity Doo's line leave your child's hair and scalp clean, healthy, and shiny, protects against infestation, and contain no chemicals or harsh odors. I don't know about you, but knowing that there are preventative products out there that don't contain harsh chemicals gives me great peace of mind.
My girls have been using the Zippity Doo's products for a couple of weeks now and we love the products. Their hair looks healthier than it has in months and knowing that my girl's have added protection again head lice is a great feeling. Our favorite products in the line are without a doubt the Leave-In Detangler; it works wonders on both of my daughter's hair and the shield spray; you can spray it on just about anything…from hair to backpacks and pillows. Zippity Doo's products are available at CVS.com, EZMedShop.com, Akins Natural Foods Market, and Value Drugs.
Of course you don't have to wait to buy it in the store because one Misadventures in Baby Raising reader is going to win the entire line of Zippity Doo's products!

"Why treat lice when you can prevent them?" That is the theme of Zippity Doo's new hair care products for children.
Treating lice is NOT fun, and it really isn't all that healthy most of the time. Zippity Doo's products are mild enough for daily use, provide health benefits to the scalp and hair and help prevent lice infestations. The shampoo and conditioner are the first line of defense against lice. You then can add the gel or detangler for a second line of defense before the kids head out the door. The shield spray is for hats and helmets and things the can carry lice, spray it on and prevent lice from jumping on.
The ingredients are natural products that you might even find in your house. Tea Tree Oil and Anise seem to be a common ingredient, with cinnamon, sage and a few others thrown in the different products.
I found it refreshing and a huge relief to be able to use hair care products that are safe and natural. Aside from the lice products, I worry about what is in the shampoo that I put on the kids. The scents were not what you normally expect in a kids product, strawberry or watermelon, but they were nice and you can tell they are natural. I was pleased with all the products they carry, and especially loved the detangling spray for Trinity's long hair. She really likes it and asks for it every time we brush her hair. (that means it really works!) It is our absolute favorite of the products, and it is our favorite detangling spray of any brand. I can't attest to whether or not it repels lice, but I can say that we haven't gotten lice since using it, haha, but I don't know if we were exposed to it or not, either.
You can find Zippity Doo's products at CVS Pharmacy.
I received a complimentary set of Zippity Doo's products through Zippity Doo's and Mom Select in the hope that I would write a review, I received no other compensation for my opinions. My opinions are my own.

Zippity Doo review! (with giveaway!) – CLOSED
This giveaway is now CLOSED. The winner has been picked…
Recently, we received a package with Zippity Doo Hair Products for children that included shampoo, conditioner, detangler, hair gel and shield spray. (Here is where I confess that we have not used the hair gel or shield spray!)
The first thing I noticed was how great the products smell! Seriously! Delicious!
After reading over the ingredient list, I was very comfortable using the products on the boys (and by saying that "I was very comfortable", I mean that I gave hubby the go ahead to use them since he does bath time!) They're not 100% natural, but they do contain a great deal of natural ingredients.
The true test was the detangler as our oldest son has longer styled hair that has tons of tangles after washing. It worked great and there are no more screaming fits while trying to comb out his hair!
I can't attest to the lice-protection benefits of Zippity Doo, but I'm ALL for it! I'm saving it for when he ventures off to school one day and we'll see the real test then! (Although, if I hear of a lice outbreak in his Sunday school class, you can bet your sweet bippy I'll be whipping out that Shield Spray!)
I was very excited to see that you could purchase these products at CVS (so for you ECB fans, keep your eyes peeled for a great deal!)
Zippity Doo has generously offered a set of hair care products for your little one!

Chef's Review & The Winning Dish: Zippity Doo's Review & Giveaway
Why Treat Head Lice When You Can PREVENT It?
Warmer weather is getting here and it's time to think about things that come with it–like lice. Thankfully my children have never had lice, but I've heard from several mothers that it is not fun. Zippity Doo's is a company that knows that and has worked hard to come up with a line of children's products that actually help to prevent lice. They offer shampoo, conditioner, hair gel, leave-in detangler, and a shield spray that all are mild enough for everyday use but has extra added health benefits and prevents lice.
Each of the products are made with all-natural ingredients and have wonderful, subtle herbal scents. My 3 children have really enjoyed using the different products. I don't normally buy gel for them so that's been an extra treat! And I love the fact that we're using natural products that actually can help us prevent the nasty ol' lice!
Be sure to check out Zippity Doo's complete line of hair care products. Zippity Doo's products may be found at CVS, EZMedShop.com, and local pharmacies in the New York area.

Zippity Doo's Hair Care Products
I think it is something that literally happens to every kid growing up. Whether the parents talk about it or not, it happens.
No it's not something that you really want to brag about. But it's also something that parents can find comfort in discussing it with one another. They can share tips on how to prevent it, how to get rid of it, etc.
What am I talking about? I'm talking about head lice. The thought of it is literally making my head itch while I'm typing this. It's horrible and it has such a bad stigma. Parents think "did my kid get this because they're not clean enough?" Of course not. It's just one of those things kind of like a virus that kids are going to get when they're in close proximity to one another all the time (like in a school setting).
The good news is that there are things that you can do to get rid of it. The bad news is that it's not always "easy" to get rid of. Even better news....you can prevent it by using specifically formulated hair products. Zippity Doo's™, is a line of children's hair care products that help prevent head lice. Zippity Doo's™ products contain natural ingredients that are mild enough for daily use and provide health benefits to the hair and scalp while helping to prevent lice infestation. They are also paraben-free! From shampoo and conditioner to detangler and styling gel, as well as a shield spray for all surfaces, Zippity Doo's has created an entire hair care regimen that will leave your child's hair clean, healthy and shiny.
Daily/As Needed: Apply Zippity Doo's™ Shield Spray on all surfaces, including hats, helmets, backpacks, pillows, bedding, toys, combs, clips, berets and other items and hair accessories that may harbor lice, nits and other insects.
We have tried out all of the Zippity Doo's products here in my house. I personally love all of them and they seem to work great. The only thing that I have to say negative about them is that the "natural smell" is a bit too much for my personal taste. Some people love the smell of all the tea tree oil, etc. I'm just not a personal fan. My daughter also made the remark about not liking the smell. I would love to see them maybe up the cinnamon or lavender scent a bit more.

Zippity Doo's: Children's Hair Products that Protect!!

They are also paraben-free!
From shampoo and conditioner to detangler and styling gel, as well as a shield spray for all surfaces, Zippity Doo's has created an entire hair care regimen that will leave your child's hair clean, healthy and shiny.
On my youngest, I'm using the detangler daily! Luckily we have not been affected by lice or any outbreaks, but my 4 year old is in preschool daily and you never know. My daughter's hair is very long and the detangler works really well and does leave her hair smooth and shiny afterwards! The scent is slightly medicinal which she seems to complain about, but for the price of protection, I'll take it. I don't think it's that bad.
I make sure my son uses the shampoo before baseball games since the boys share batting helmets and well, can share anything else related to the head area right?! My oldest, age 11, uses the shampoo and conditioner for her long hair as well.
I love the idea of these protective hair products and highly recommend them! Check out their website, and find a store near you! http://www.zippitydoos.com/stores.html

It is finally Spring! We are loving every minute!
It is finally Spring! We are loving every minute! What I didn't know about Spring is that it is prime season for head lice. Yuck!! I so remember getting lice as a child and I had hair down to my bottom. It hurt so bad when my Mom had to comb my hair and wash it to get all the bugs out. Blah! I think about my boys and all the places we could get those little gnasties...bounce houses, hats, dress up clothes at the nature center, the children's musesum, gym mats, etc. I also didn't know there was a way to prevent your child from head lice.
Zippity Doo actually prevents your child from getting lice instead of treating the head lice. I have never seen or heard of a product like this. And it is ALL natural. It smells so fresh and amazing. I want to find a scent similar for myself.
There are 5 products in the line. Shampoo, conditioner, detangler, syling gel and shielding spray. All of which I have used on the boys blonde heads. We don't use the conditioner much though.
But I am sure I would on a little girl! Maybe we'll get one of those!? I LOVE the styling gel. I use it everyday. It works really well and allows their hair to stay soft, smell great and prevents head lice. What more could a mom ask for? And I get to give away an entire set!
Buy: The products start at $10.99 at select online retailers

Zippity Doo's Review and Giveaway
A month ago I was given a sample of the entire line of Zippity Doo's products to try out which includes:
Shampoo
Conditioner
Leave-in Detangler Spray
Styling Gel
Shield Spray
Zippity Doo's is a children's line of hair care products for lice prevention. Luckily my kids have never had lice but I know at some daycares and other schools it can be a big problem.
What we liked about it is that it was gentle enough for every day use and didn't dry the girls hair out. You could also just use it a few times a week.
It can be found at CVS and other retailers, but if you check out their facebook fan page you will see a code for $2 off each when bought at CVS online.

Zippity Doo's Kids Hair Products Review and Giveaway!
******This Giveaway is now Closed******
I'll never forget the afternoon that I watched my best friend Clarie's mom comb through her daughters hair as she picked out lice and nits. Lice had broken out at our school that week and we all came home with letters in our daily folders warning our parents.
Of course, by the time those letters made it home, many kids already had it. My brother even ended up with it and the smell of that tar shampoo my mom had to use was just awful.
When it comes to things like Lice, as a parent I like to lean towards the preventative side of things. So when Zippity Doo's offered to send me their line of children's hair products that help to prevent Lice, I said yes.
One thing I loved about these products from the time I opened the box is that they are made from Natural Ingredients. You won't find any tar or harsh chemicals here. That is a big plus for me. I don't want to use anything on Jackson that could harm him (now, or in the future).
I was given 1 Shampoo, 1 Conditioner, 1 Shield Spray, 1 Styling Gel, and 1 Leave-In Detangler to try. Each product has it's own unique blend of natural ingredients like Rosemary, Tea Tree, and Cinnamon. As you can imagine, they smell pretty good. I was not crazy about the way the styling gel smelled, but I was impressed because it had a good hold in Jackson's hair the day we used it.
I was hesitant to use the Shampoo at first, only because although I knew these products are made for children, the bottle did not say that said it was tear-free. I went ahead and just used it with caution, and best I could tell the shampoo is tear-free...but I think the label should say so in the future.
The shampoo and conditioner lathered well and rinsed out easily. Jackson's hair smelled nice even after it was dry.
Finally, I love the concept of the Shield Spray, which can really come in handy if your child attends playgroup, daycare, or school. You can use this spray on almost anything to discourage Lice and other insects from infesting your child's things like hats, backpacks, camping equipment, and clothes. The Shield Spray will be in our camping essentials bag from now on!

Zippity Doo's Childrens Hair Products REVIEW & GIVEAWAY!!

For a portion of our lives my sister and I lived with my Dad, who at the time was in the Air force. We were stationed in Guam for the majority of my elementary school years. I'm not sure if this was a common practice here in the states? But, in Guam I remember doing routine lice checks in the nurses office. From what I hear lice is highly contagious. Thank goodness neither one of us ever got it, but we knew enough kids who did to know its a pesky and annoying problem! Now as a Mom myself, I don't look forward to worrying about lice spreading to my little guy once he goes to school. Not fun! So when MomSelect invited me to try the Zippity Doo children's haircare products that also prevents lice I was very interested!
Zippity Doo's™ children's hair care products are mild enough for daily use, provide health benefits to the hair and scalp while helping prevent lice infestation.
Zippity Doo sent us their entire line of hair products which included:
Zippity Doo's Shampoo for children
Zippity Doo's Conditioner for children
Zippity Doo's Leave-in-Detangler for children (love this!)

"Why treat lice, when you can prevent it?"
"Why treat lice, when you can prevent it?" This is the motto of Zippity Doo's line of children's hair care products. We have been fortunate enough to not have had to treat lice in our home, but know many people who have and I hear it is a difficult and unpleasant experience. Several of them have even had to resort to shaving all the heads on the household, moms and daughters included, and who knows the side effects of those expensive chemical treatments? In comes Zippity Doo with their line of hair care products that use natural ingredients to prevent lice from infesting our children and our homes.
Zippity Doo has 5 products that can used separately or together for a stronger defense. There is a shampoo, a conditioner, a leave-in detangler, a styling gel, and a shield spray for hard-to-wash surfaces such as hats, helmets and backpacks. The products are gentle enough for daily use and work as well as their "regular" counterparts. The ingredients include anise, rosemary, tea tree oil, sage, and rosemary (each product has a different combination).
We enjoyed these products very much. They smell wonderful and while they are not the typical, chemical fruity/candy scents, the kids still enjoyed the blend of natural scents. The bottles state that they also help protect against "other insects" as well, so I am thinking about buying some more to use during the summer to see how it protects against those darn mosquitoes.
Zippity Doo products can be found at CVS.com, Value Drugs and other drug stores and hair salons.
Would you like to win a set of your own Zippity Doo products? One person will win one bottle of each product to use themselves. Even if you are not exposed to lice or other insects, these are wonderful hair care products. To enter:
- Tell me who you use these products on. I am not ashamed to say I will be using these this summer to avoid those bugs. (mandatory entry)
- You can earn bonus entries (one entry for each that you do) subscribing to my blog, following my blog, or sharing this giveaway via your blog or other social networking site. Please leave an extra comment for each bonus entry. The winner will be chosen on May 8th and they will have 48 hours to get back to me or a new winner will be chosen. I am not sure what time I will choose the winner on the 8th, but entries will be accepted up until the drawing. Good luck!

CoolCanucks Blog Contest – Zippity Doo's™ children's hair care products Review & Giveaway!!CLOSED
Posted on May 21st, 2010 by roxxyroller in Giveaways Canada.
Why Treat Head Lice When You Can PREVENT it!
Zippity Doo's™ children's hair care products are mild enough for daily use and provide health benefits to the hair and scalp while helping prevent lice infestation!
Their product line includes shampoo, conditioner, leave-in detangler, hair gel and shield spray. The concept is to use the shampoo & conditioner and either use the hair gel or leave-in detangler as a 2nd line of defense. The shield spray can be used on anything that your child's hair comes into contact with: clothes, pillows, blankets, stuffed animals, etc.
One of the biggest fears of parents is a huge lice breakout, whether it be from school or at play. I just shudder at the thought of it! Luckily when I was small I did not get it, but so many children do! Zippity Doo's™ actually prevents your child from getting lice instead of treating the head lice. I have never seen or heard of a product like this, and it is ALL natural. It smells so fresh and amazing and the kiddies just love having their own personal haircare line!
We were sent these great products to review and I totally recommend them to all families!
There are 5 products in this great line. Shampoo, conditioner, detangler, styling gel and shielding spray. It is an absolute MUST to have all 5! They all smell just heavenly and leave your kids' hair feeling nice and soft!
I give Zippity Doo's™ a huge thumbs up!
The very kind and generous folks over at Zippity Doo's™ have graciously offered to give one lucky CoolCanucks winner the chance to win a complete set of their great products as well!! SWEET!!!!!

Have you heard of this new shampoo??
Have you heard of this new shampoo?? I hadn’t until recently. They are genius! Zippity Doo’s came up with a way to help prevent lice from getting in your child’s hair. Which is huge, with the rate schools are getting it and spreading it. It is completely pediatrician approved.
You can use the Shampoo/Conditioner daily to help prevent, as well as the Detangler spray and Styling gel. Then when you feel that your child might be at a higher risk, such as sharing a baseball helmet, or combs, hair accessories, etc. You can spray them with the Shield Spray. All products are:
• Mild enough to use on a daily basis
• Natural and not harsh treatments
So if you are thinking of sending your child off to summer camp this year… Think about using these products before hand. Did you know that 24% of Summer Camps had Lice outbreaks last year??
My kids have been using it for a couple weeks. They love the smell.. its not to strong or stinky. It works good in their hair, and still leaves it manageable and easy to care for.
Right now you can buy Zippity Doo’s at a few stores in New York. For the complete list go here. Or you can order it online at CVS.com.
Win it:
One of my lucky readers will have the chance to win:
• A bottle of Shampoo
• A bottle of Conditioner
• A bottle of Styling Gel
• A bottle of Shield Spray
Thanks to MomSelect & Zippity Doo’s. Wait that’s not all… I also got some samples from the Smart Mom Blogging Conference I went to, so I am going to give away another set to one more winner.
* I was provided with samples of Zippity Doo’s in exchange for a review. All opinions are mine and mine alone. Thanks to Zippity Doo’s and MomSelect for the product and opportunity.

Zippity Doo's Makes Saying "NO" To Head Lice A Pleasant Experience For You & Your Kids! Win This Great Gift Pack!
Yes...this horrible epidemic attacked our family for the first time this year! HEAD LICE! Just the mention of the words makes my head itch and my skin crawl. I cannot stand these pesky, hard to get rid of, super contagious pests. Thankfully, I have just been introduced to another product that can make our lives easier as parents in fighting this awful spread...
I received a package (sent to me free of charge from MomSelect & Zippity Doo's) for fighting this cause! We received four different Zippity Doo's products (Shampoo, Conditioner, Styling Gel & Shield Spray) and I love them already! Why? Well, first off, they smell like normal children's hair products...not like pesticides or harmful chemicals. That's because they are made with only natural ingredients (which makes them safe to use all the time on my kids). Secondly, the Shield Spray is perfect for using not only on the hair, but since it's not sticky & does not leave a residue, it can be sprayed on things that can't be washed, like toys, pillows, furniture, etc. AWESOME! Love it! Using these products would be no different (to my kids) than using their typical hair care products...and I feel good knowing that we won't have future outbreaks.
I'm serious, these would definitely be products I would use even as a defense mechanism to prevent any other future outbreaks at the schools. Obviously the little girl's have trouble keeping their hands off my daughter's hair and at least this way...I will feel confident that we won't have to go through the month long process of ridding ourselves of them again. I am excited because I get to offer (1) Lucky Reader the chance to win their own Zippity Doo's Gift pack (just like I received). This is perfect for anyone (even if you've never had lice) to use as pre-caution. Cause trust me...you don't want them if you've never had them! They are awful and horrible to get rid of once they have settled in your (or your kids) hair.
I was not paid to do this product review/feature! I was compensated only by the product that was sent for review!

Zippity Doo's review
I received a set of Zippity Doo's product line today from Zippity Doo and MomSelect to try on my kids. The idea of this product is that it will help to prevent headlice. www.zippitydoos.com I really like the smell of all of the items except the shampoo. But it was expected because it uses tea tree oil and it has a very strong smell.

Zippity Doo's - product review
Growing up with 5 siblings we had our fair share of run in with the dreaded four letter word……LICE! Eww!!!
I worry about when my children get to be school age and I have to deal with the chance of Lice. So I was ecstatic when Zippity Doo invited me to try their line of children's hair care products that also prevents lice I was very interested!

Although my children don't go to school yet, it is still a great product to have on hand! Not only do these products come in fun colors and packaging, but they also smell good. They don't smell medicated at all! The shampoo and conditioner is great to use during his normal bath routine and the fact that it also prevents lice is a major added bonus!!! I also love the detangler! A must have in our home. I also shared this product with my sister who has two school aged sons and they gave the product 2 thumbs up!!
Here is the list of stores that carry Zippity Doo products. Crossing fingers that prevention is the key!

It's that time of the year...
It is that time of year....summer camps! Kids are gearing up to head off to camp for a weekend, week or two and they are going to be busy! Summer camp is full of kids, activities, and events. One other thing that can be at camp is head lice. Head lice are tiny insects that live on the scalp. They can be spread by close contact with other people, and summer camp is a place full of kids with constant contact with each other. These lice only live in hair and occasionally eyebrows and eyelashes. It is definitely something I would prefer to not have my children get. I have heard horror stories about children getting lice, and bringing it home. It is a tough thing to get rid of, and you have to clean/sanitize your whole home from it. Talk about a lot of work and stress.
I was recently introduced to a product line, Zippity Doo's, which are children's hair care products designed to prevent head lice. Zippity Doo's products are safe, pediatrician approved and made with natural ingredients. Zippity Doo's products are not harsh, nor made with chemicals that will harm your children, even when used daily.
Zippity Doo's products are designed to repell lice and other insects, and to help promote healthy hair and scalps.
**Leaves hair clean, shiny and healthy
**Protects against head lice infestation
**Pleasant, and fresh scents
Zippity Doo’s Shampoo ingredients including Vitamin D, Carrot Seed Oil, Alpha Hydroxy, Rosemary, Cinnamon, Tea Tree, Anise & Lavender.
Zippity Doo’s Conditioner ingredients including Aloe Vera, Wild Cherry Bark, Avocado Oil, Rosemary, Tea Tree, Anise & Geranium.
Zippity Doo’s Leave-In Detangler Spray ingredients including Silk Protein, Grape Seed Oil, Wild Cherry Bark, Rosemary, Tea Tree, Anise & Sage.
Zippity Doo’s Styling Gel blends natural, organic ingredients of Lemongrass, Avocado Oil, Rosemary, Tea Tree, Cinnamon, Anise & Sage.
Zippity Doo's Shield Spray is made with a special combination of natural, organic ingredients, including Lemon Oil, Rosemary, Citronella Oil, Tea Tree Oil, Sage Oil and Anise to provide added protection from lice & other insect infestation on surfaces, including hair.
I think it is great that Zippity Doo's products are made with natural ingredients to help prevent head lice and other insects from intruding in your children's hair. Zippity Doo's products are made for adults, too.

I have a product to help you out when it comes to lice. You ask what is it?
Now that school is about out this year, how many of you parents out there had to deal with lice? Come on tell us the truth.....
I can say I have been very lucky and I haven't had to deal with it. I hope to stay that way too. I do know for a fact that lice was really bad at another school in town, but didn't make it to the school my son goes too. I wont say there wasn't any cases, because there was but not near as bad as the other local school.
What tips do you tell your kids to keep them from getting lice? I know I tell my son don't ever share a comb, brush or hat. Just be smart about it as lice are so small and spread so quick. I can remember having them three times when I was smaller and boy how awful it was. I would sit on the porch, mom would take one of those special combs and comb through my hair and it would take forever. How can I forget the smelly shampoo and how my head would itch. (Ugh.. it's making it itch as I think back.) Those are the days I never want to relive again!

Money Saving Mama
If you have ever had to deal with head lice in your household then you know how hard it is to get rid of them for good! We dealt with them last year with one of my older kids and I hope that we never ever have to go through that again! It seems like every year we get a letter home from school saying that head lice is spreading around! Yikes, the thought of that makes my head itch!!
So, I was super excited when I came across a company called Zippity Doo's!
Zippity Doo’s children’s hair care products are mild enough for daily use, provide health benefits to the hair and scalp while helping prevent lice infestation. Sweet! :)
Their products include Shampoo, Conditioner, Detangler, Styling Gel and Shield Spray!
Use the products daily to help prevent lice and other insects. The Shield Spray can be sprayed on products like, combs, hats, helmets, bedding, pillows and anything else that might play host to lice, nits or other annoying insects! All their products are mild and safe enough to use daily and a natural, gentle prevention instead of harsh treatments! It is also Pediatrician recommended!
Zippity Doo's Products can be purchased on CVS.com and found at a few select stores listed HERE.
I was sent some Shampoo, Conditioner, Spray Shield and Styling Gel to aid in my review recently and have been using the Zippity Doo's Shampoo and Conditioner daily on my 2 year old Emily. The smell is very light and pleasant. I absoultely love how soft it makes her hair! Her hair tends to get tangled easily and is hard to brush through after washing, but after using Zippity Doo's Shampoo and Conditioner I can just let it dry without even chasing after her with a brush! :) I plan on buying and using Zippity Doo's products in the future, especially during those times that I know their is a lice breakout at school!
These products would be great to send to camp with your kids this summer too! Nothing worse than having to do all that dirty laundry when your kid gets home and deal with a case of head lice too! Of course, I plan on using these as well during times of lice breakouts! :)

Health Tips from Dr. Mommy
It's hard to believe that this school year is over, and summer is finally here! For millions of kids across the country, and for the four in my house, summer means camps of all kinds: day camps for sports and arts, a session of summer school and a sleep away camp for my youngest daughter. I'm almost as excited as my daughter for all of the experiences in store for her, from souvenirs and photos to new friends and great memories. As a mom, I also want to make sure she stays safe and healthy. So I'm packing a few things that she can use to bring back only good things from camp!
* The first items in her bag will be from Zippity Doo's, a children's hair care line that prevents head lice. With all of the close quarters in cabins, tents and even at activities, Zippity Doo's is the perfect preventative solution for head lice. Made from natural ingredients, Zippity Doo's shampoo, conditioner, detangler and shield spray smell great which means my daughter will use it. Find Zippity Doo's at ZippityDoos.com, CVS.com and soon at Target.com.
* Proper clothing and shoes – depending on the type of camp, pack the appropriate clothing, swimwear and footwear. Don't forget the hoodie-type sweatshirt for cooler nights and foul weather gear (a lightweight poncho works well as it's lightweight and easy to pack).
* A medicine/first aid kit with items like band-aids and Benadryl, as well as a supply of BioGaia probiotic chewable tablets. These tablets will help ease tummy troubles if my daughter's dinner consists of popcorn and s'mores!
* We always pack something fun that can be traded or given to new friends at camp. This year, the hottest trend is Silly Bands, the colorful, shaped bands that are also bracelets. We have a few packages already in the pile of items to pack, and we even found an online source for tee shirts with the Silly Bands shapes! At LikeWear.com, we were able to order two shirts (one for daughter, one for best friend) for under $20!
Summer camp is always a great memory maker for kids, and as parents, we only want our kids to bring home good things! I know my daughter will have a great time at sleepaway camp, and with proper planning and packing, I won't worry so much when she is three states away.

Prevent Head Lice So You Don't Have to Treat it!
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) on Monday released a study which urges schools not to send children home when head lice, or nits, are present. ”Most researchers agree that no-nit policies should be abandoned,” the report reads. “No healthy child should be excluded from or allowed to miss school time because of head lice.” While I’m not sure I agree with this new policy, I’m certain it will be discussed and debated in the school offices and between parents when school starts within the next few weeks. But I have a better idea: prevention. Why not prevent an infestation with products like Zippity Doo’s, which would eliminate the missed school time, missed work/wages by parents, and let’s not forget the cost of treatment and the use of chemicals to treat lice.
Officials of Zippity Doo’s™, in favor of the just-issued new guidelines on lice are emphasizing that the best way for parents to deal with the problem of lice is to prevent it altogether. ”We agree with the recommendation that ‘no healthy child should be excluded from or allowed to miss school time because of head lice,’” said Zippity Doo's representative Lorraine McNamara. ”We also believe that children do not have to get to the stage where they are infested with lice and thus even have to think about missing school or other activities.”
I recently read a number of $2,700 of direct and indirect costs to treat a lice infestation in a household. This average number holds true if you consider the story of a colleague who recently told me that when her daughter was sent home from preschool with head lice, almost everyone she asked said to go straight to a private clinic to pay for treatments. After two rounds of visits for the treatment and follow up, the grand total was $850, added to the 2 days of missed work for the mom who is a contract employee and gets paid for hours worked. Coincidentally, at the follow up appointment, the clinic recommended Zippity Doo’s to prevent future infestations.
As I scratch my head because we’re talking about head lice, I’m wondering why these medieval bugs are still around, and how we get rid of them. Until we figure that out, let’s prevent head lice before our kids get them with products like Zippity Doo’s™. Just like we eat healthy to prevent disease, we should treat hair before head lice is a problem. ”Parents, school nurses and school officials should be aware that head lice can be prevented,” said Ms. McNamara. “Prevention is much preferable to treatment and will help keep lice out of the classroom and other areas where children gather and can spread lice to one another.”
With four busy, active children, I consider myself very lucky to have escaped the call from the school that one my children has head lice. Of all the issues parents deal with, I’ve heard from so many Moms (and Dads) over the years that head lice infestation is one of the most stressful, time-consuming and costly issues that affect a household. At a suggested retail price of $9.99 per bottle, Zippity Doo’s offers a shampoo, conditioner, styling gel and leave-in detangler, as well as a surface spray that parents can use on items children frequently touch, such as hats, helmets, brushes, and bedding. Compared with the cost of even a few hundred dollars to treat head lice, why not buy Zippity Doo’s that you would use anyway?
It is available at Target.com, CVS.com, Akin’s Natural Foods and Chamberlin’s Natural Foods, Dahls Foods, Value Drugs (NY) and other drug, grocery, mass merchandise or beauty supply stores. More information about Zippity Doo’s hair care products for lice prevention, created by Laurus Enterprises, is available at www.zippitydoos.com.

Zippity Doo's - product review
Zippity Doo's sent me full size bottles of their shampoo, conditioner, styling gel and sheild spray. (They also carry a detangler). These are used to protect your children and yourself from the dreaded lice infestation while keeping your hair and scalp healthy. These are used to prevent the occurence of lice before it starts.
Now think back to when you were a kid in school. Remember when they had public health come in to check all the kids for lice? I'm sure we've all experienced it. Having to go home with that horrible note saying someone at the school was found to have lice and all the kids need to have the treatment done and then have our hair combed with that horrible steel comb as a precaution. Then everything from your clothes to your bed sheets need to be washed uin really hot water to kill off any lice that may or may not be in your home. Seems like a lot of work doesn't it. I really hated the time I experienced it, I can only imagine what my mom must have felt. I know I don't want to have to experience this with my child. Now that I have her signed up for activities where she is encountering other children and a niece that is in school, I worry a little more about the things that she could possibly "catch". My head is itchy just thinking about :S
Here is how to use (straight from their site)
Use Zippity Doo's™ :
Bath Time: Zippity Doo's™Shampoo and Zippity Doo's™ Conditioner as first line of defense against lice and other insects.
Every Morning: Zippity Doo's™ Leave-In Detangler or Zippity Doo's™ Styling Gel for an added and fresh layer of lice prevention before the kids head off to school or camp.
Daily/As Needed: Apply Zippity Doo's™ Shield Spray on all surfaces, including: hats, helmets, backpacks, pillows, bedding, toys, combs, clips, berets and other items and hair accessories that may harbor lice, nits and other insects.
I like that the products are all pediatrician approved. They are mild enough for every day use and they smell great!
